100 Things

Here it is!  To commemorate my 100th post, here is my 100 Things page and I hate to say that it was harder to write all about me than I actually thought it would be!

  1. I love to karaoke — in fact, it’s known as karenoake around these parts.
  2. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t sing for toffee, but I’ve got some good moves!
  3. I guess it is because I love music.
  4. I’m 5 ft 10 1/2 inches tall — I’m actually the shortest in my family — my brothers are 6 ft 2, 6 ft 6 and my sis is 6 ft 1.
  5. I’m quite often told by older men that I remind them of Hayley Mills.
  6. I am very short sighted, but far too vain to wear glasses all the time so you’ll usually find me in my contact lenses.
  7. I love tea.
  8. I love coffee.
  9. Ice cream is a particular weakness of mine.
  10. As are chips and salsa.
  11. I fell in love with my hubby when I was sweet sixteen.
  12. We married three years later — yes, I was a teen bride but there was a really good reason!
  13. So, he could get a green card!  My mum had re-emigrated over here when I was 18 and had dragged me over with her.  DH came to visit me and ended up staying!  The rest is history!
  14. I used to be so homesick for the UK that I would cry.
  15. I think the most I miss from over there these days is the radio (American radio is crap), the pubs, cafes, scones with fresh cream and jam, walks in the countryside, Corrie, Eastenders, walks on the beach, friends and family.
  16. People tell me I should be in the Pacific Northwest or up in New England as they would remind me more of the UK than Florida!
  17. My family keeps me here.
  18. Although, my mum tells me if another bloody republican gets in tae the White House then she’s off tae emigrate tae Canada.
  19. I think my mum is brilliant.
  20. I never thought I would be domestically blissful as a housewife and mum, but I am!  Really, I am.
  21. I never thought much about having children until I was in a car accident — the car was totalled and I literally walked away without much of anything.
  22. I have my bachelor’s degree in mass communications and would love to go back and get my master’s degree, but not sure what in.
  23. My favorite flower is the daisy.
  24. My favorite color is yellow.  I also love blue.
  25. I make fun of myself a lot!  As well as other people!  He he!
  26. All my boys names pay homage to their Scottish roots.  My mother’s maiden name is Taylor.  Taylor is of the Cameron clan.  And, Logan?  Well, we just wanted another Gaelic name.
  27. I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything because I never had a daughter.  It just makes me the princess of the house!
  28. Logan was supposed to be my Aubrey Elizabeth!
  29. I love to shop.  I have the bills to prove it!
  30. I’m allergic to shellfish.
  31. Used to be vegetarian until I got pregnant with my first child and then I craved burgers and steaks.  I know, it was a cruel joke.
  32. I’ve tried to go back to being a vegetarian, but have been unsuccessful especially when some chicken wings are thrust under my nose.
  33. I have a stationary fetish.  I love paper and could get lost in stationary stores!
  34. I also have diaper bag and stroller fetishes.
  35. In my 20’s, I once had a sex dream about Jack Nicholson which completely freaked me out.
  36. Then, in my earlier 30’s, I had a sex dream about David Spade?
  37. I have asthma.
  38. I’m allergic to cats.
  39. I love the sound of the ocean.
  40. And, the sound of my children’s laughter.
  41. I am one of four — I have 2 older brothers and a younger sister.
  42. I am the only one of them born in the USA — my brothers were born in Scotland and my sister in Germany.
  43. My mum is Scottish and my Dad is an American.  They met whilst he was stationed with the US Navy in Scotland.
  44. He got sent to Diego Garcia when she was pregnant with me and he asked her if she wanted to stay in Scotland or got to Washington state where he is from to have me.  Needless to say she jumped at the chance to move to America!
  45. Being that my dad was in the navy, we moved around a lot when I was a kid.  I think I lived in 12 different houses by the time I was 16 in 4 different countries.
  46. I met my bestest friend ever when we were 11.  We’re still the best of chums and even though we don’t sit down face to face for a natter but once every couple of years, when we do it is like we’ve never been apart.  MSN and emails help keep us in touch too though.
  47. We once decided to be each other’s make-up artist and walked out of my house with yellow, blue and pink eye shadow all over our eyelids.  Wish I had the photos of that day!
  48. I am a virgo.  My birthday is Sept. 2 and everyone knows I do like to start celebrating it a few weeks beforehand!  Must be because I love parties and soirees!
  49. I hate laundry.  I’d rather scrub a nasty toilet than do laundry and ironing and put it all away.
  50. One of my pet peeves is the misuse of the apostrophe.
  51. I worry way too much.
  52. I’d love to travel more.  There are so many places I would like to see like Hawaii, Iceland, Canada and Italy to name a few at the top of the list.
  53. There are plenty of places I’d like to see here in the USA too though.
  54. I love cheese and crackers.  Wensyledale is a particular favorite of mine, but you can’t get it over here other than for special orders.
  55. I tend to be a little on the sensitive side, but am also bossy, genuine, will tell it like it is and usually get what I want.
  56. I am fiercely protective of those nearest and dearest to me.
  57. I am green.  I recycle and am proud to say I love the environment.  I worry about the world my children’s children will inherit.
  58. I am a closet reality TV junkie — dating all the way back to watching MTV’s very first The Real World.
  59. I love dancing — I’m never first on a dance floor unless there is alcohol involved, but I’m out there all night!
  60. I’m trying to persuade DH to take dance lessons with me so we can dance like they do on Dancing with the Stars, but he’s having none of it.
  61. I don’t do tequila.  Did a couple of shots of it once at a party way back when and passed out!  Honest!
  62. I do love a nice glass of sauvignon blanc.
  63. Also, Corona lite.
  64. I’m a light weight though when it comes to drinking alcohol — like DH likes to say, I’m a cheap date.
  65. I sprained my ankle when I was 11.
  66. I resprained it a year later when my little sister jumped on it because I wouldn’t play Sindy dolls (Barbies) with her.
  67. I never liked playing with dolls.
  68. I was obsessed with writing and reading.  I begged for a typewriter for years and finally got one when I was 11.
  69. My parents divorced when I was 5.
  70. Apart from the occasional card, my dad has never really been a part of my life.  I was closer to his mother, my Grandma Margaret than I ever have been him.
  71. It’s a shame because my kids are the only grandkids he has.
  72. I blame it on his wife.
  73. I guess you could say I have father issues, but I like to keep that to myself.
  74. Heck, I have issues period!
  75. I have a terrible sweet tooth for pumpkin muffins, carrot cake and key lime pie, not forgetting ice cream, but I already covered that.
  76. I’ve been to 8 different countries — England, Scotland, USA, Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland and Spain.
  77. And, 16 different states as well as DC — FL, GA, SC, NC, KY, VA, WV, PA, OH, TN, WA, CA, UT, NY, NJ and MD.
  78. We were supposed to move to Nashville last year, but unable to sell our home after 8 months, the company offered DH an opportunity closer to home.  This is the same company that let him go last month.
  79. I am superstitious.
  80. I am a big fan of science fiction movies and television show, namely Battlestar Gallactica, Star Wars and The Terminator.
  81. I think it dates back to being forced to watch Buck Rogers with my big brothers when I was a kid.
  82. I never had a problem growing up with acne, then I have my 3rd baby and develop adult acne.  WTF?
  83. As a result of the said acne, I have now started wearing proper liquid foundation for the first time in my life.
  84. I’d love to go and get a spray tan, but am too scared of coming out looking like a streaky orange carrot.
  85. I’m very fair skinned.
  86. Sssssh, I dye my hair!
  87. I hate bugs.
  88. Or dirt.
  89. I’m a bit of a neat freak although being a mother and married to my slob of a DH has cured me of it for the most part.
  90. Clutter aggravates me, but I do have a few secret junk drawers.
  91. You should see our garage.  If it were up to me, it would house only our cars, a couple of gardening tools, our bikes and our kayaks.  As it is, I leave it to DH and well, it has everything but the kitchen sink in it.
  92. I swear.
  93. I refuse to watch horror movies.  Much prefer a good comedy, chick flick or action thriller.
  94. I’m very much a glass is half full type of person although I do enjoy a good grumble every now and then.
  95. I can be very impatient.  I think it is because when I know what I want, I want it yesterday and you can’t stop me — I get obsessive!
  96. But I’m not quite as impatient as my little sis!  I think my sis is an amazing mom and person  — considering all she has gone through with my neice’s epilepsy.   I just wish she knew how truly amazing she is.
  97. I think all my family are amazing — I’m very proud of them all!
  98. I love having pedicures.
  99. I love to give presents, but feel very awkward receiving them!  Weird?
  100. I can be very random, but in my own organized sort of way if that makes sense!

    Where’s 100?

Hahahaha to the David Spade dream.

Tell your mum that the Conservatives are in power in Canada, though I have heard it said that our conservative party equals your democrats.

Do you not get Corrie? We have it here, but it is a good 9 months behind. We watch the weeks’ worth on Sunday mornings.

My daughter is also called Taylor because it was my mother’s maiden name. Had I known how popular it would be I wouldn’t have used it but we had already told my nan and grandad who were thrilled.

  2. 2008 June 12

Ooops, not sure what happened there, but I just put it back in there!

I think you can get Corrie on Dish but it is very far behind, I end up just reading the updates on ITV.

Wow, on your mother’s maiden name being Taylor too! My mother’s full name was actually Elizabeth Taylor, known as Betty to friends and family.

  3. 2008 June 13

I suppose Elizabeth Taylor is quite a common name…on my dad’s side his great grandmother was called Elizabeth Taylor. Funnily enough, my daughter is called Taylor Elizabeth and I didn’t know about the Irish gg grandmother until my Taylor was one.

With you on 33 and 73.
    And you should try 84 – they have different shades…it doesn’t last forever – you won’t streak….

  5. 2008 July 16

Wow, I have quite a few I’m totally with you on. The apostrophe thing…TOTALLY agree.

By the WAY! Guess what??? Your Wensyledale cheese? Costco has it. No joke. Go. Go NOW!

I love that #1 has to do with karaoke! I have four kids and one “must do” when we visit my mom’s is karaoke all night long…my husband disappears for a couple of hours…. if that is any indication of our singing abilities…! I stumbled upon your blog today and love it. I just started a family type blog, but I’m not sure what direction it’s heading in…hope you visit!

Love this post – now I know a little more about you!! It was fun talking with you ladies online the other night! Talk to you soon!

  8. 2008 October 15

We share the same birthday….it’s also my wedding anniversary…and I miss the UK too. I try and compensate by spending money on imported Cadbury’s chocolate. Hersheys just doesn’t do the job!

    Hello!

I’m another transplanted Brit in Florida (Gainesville). I miss the old place very much. I have found that I can listen to BBC Radio on the net, and we get BBC America on TV, so that is some consolation.

  10. 2009 April 3

This slightly bizarre and random material girl has way to many things in common and on first reading thought it was all about me, which makes a change as it was certainly all about her from what i remember.
    Take care hottie x

    7. Me too, of course. I talk about it often on my blog.
    15. You’re right. American radio is rubbish which is why I pay for Sirius. Plus, you can get Radio 1 and BBC World Service. I’m a massive EastEnder’s fan and watch current episodes on PPV on Dish Network.
    16. That is true. I live in the northeast and some places here remind me of England. I don’t think I could live in Florida or the south.
    23. Me too.
    26. My son is half Scottish and his name is Ian Alexander. My animals all have British names- Oliver, Duncan and London.
    27. Me either. I love boys. I was the only girl in the house for years, even the cats were all males, until we got my Golden Retriever London a year ago.
    35. OMG…I did too. I think it was his character from Witches of Eastwick which sort of turned me on.
    49. I hate laundry too. I’m terrible at putting it away. The clean laundry usually sits in the basket and I pull what I want out of it until the next time laundry needs to be done again.
    51. I used to worry so much that I developed panic attacks.
    82. I had acne when I was a teen and an adult and now I’m 41 and it’s starting to get bad again. I thought clear skin would be a benefit to being older. WTF? is right.
    85. Me too, thanks to my Scottish roots and a bit ginger haired (which I still can’t fully cover even with hair dye.)
    92. Is there a Brit who doesn’t swear? LOL.
    93. I don’t like horror movies either which disappoints my DH greatly. There is so much of this in real life, why watch it for entertainment?
    99. I think a lot of women are like this.
    100. I’m very spontaneous, like you, which is usually a sign of a creative person.

This was a fun post. Thanks.
