More, more, more . . .
So, one of the cool things for kids about going shopping to the grocery store with mummy is that they get a freebie cookie treat from the bakery, right? My youngest learned pretty quickly which grocery store chain offers the best tasting cookie and now I can never shop without hitting up said bakery or else I would have him pointing in the direction of the bakery, wondering WADDUP woman! Me want cookie!
Well, this afternoon after dropping off my oldest for his weekly piano lesson, I decided to do a run in and run out kind of shop with the two other boys. Obviously, I couldn’t get past the bakery. After getting their chocolate chip cookie treats, I thought I could easily fly through the store by the time the littlest guy finished his cookie. I hadn’t even made it 3 aisles over when I realised he had finished his cookie and was doing the sign for “more.” Yes, I know, . . . gag . . .I’m a hip yummy mummy who tries to teach her kid how to do the uber trendy thing and sign! Anyway, as we rounded the corner at the end of every aisle, he pointed to the bakery and started saying and signing “more, more, more.” It was so cute him tapping his little finger tips together — if only I’d had my camera! I would have choked up and become quite emotional had I not realised where I was — in the middle of aisle 3 with a decision to make.
The minutes were ticking away as I thought over my options.
- Should I just let him sign on, wail and whine for more? I thought he looked adorable, but would the other Thursday afternoon patrons?
- Should I be cheeky and head on back over to the bakery and make like we were new customers and try and cheat another cookie out of them?
- Or, should I do what I ended up resorting to which was to grab a twofer deal on chocolate chunk cookies, rip them open then and there and reward my baby for signing and communicating so beautifully and eloquently.
My diet went to hell as I ate fourfive of the little round yummy barstewards on the way home.

I was never cool enough to get around to teach signing..but I am quite good at wolfing down choc chip cookies…
Congrats on the first sign! What a great one. If you haven’t already, get the dvds. Mine got all 39 of his signs from there.
