Here comes the choo choo train . . .

by Karen @ If I Could Escape . . .

Yes, I know I shouldn’t, but this week I resorted to sound effects and role playing to encourage my littlest one to eat something other than his usual repertoire of applesauce, chicken nuggets or spaghetti.

I know it’s wrong, but seriously I’ve tried everything else!  (And, I might add that I’m wide open to any suggestions you may like to offer.)

Well, the other night he was being very stubborn and flat out refused to eat his pork chops.  He would not even open his mouth to try it.  So, I made the little piece of pork chop that I was trying to get in his mouth “talk.”  I must say it was a very bizarre conversation that took place between said piece of pork and Logan, but this particular meal time had us all in hysterics!

“Please, eat me.”

“Open up your mouth, so I can say hello to your tummy.”

“Yesh”

“I want to go in your tummy, so please eat me.”

“Yesh.”

“Open up.”

The munchkin then grabbed the piece of pork and . . . just when I thought it had worked, . . . that he was actually going to take a bite, . . . he pulls up his shirt, deposits the meat directly ON his tummy, pulls his shirt down and says,

“There!”

I’m trying the choo choo train/tunnel scam next!!

OMG! I love it! He is too smart! I have to meet this kid. You can tell that he’s related to Megan by his eating habits. If you could just get him on hot dogs and peanut butter and jelly (oh wait, he’s too young for peanut butter yet). Okay, have you tried dipping sauces? He may eat more if he can dip it in ketchup, ranch dressing, honey mustard, etc or maybe even spaghetti sauce. You could also try rewarding him for trying something. Maybe put M&M’s on the table and give him a few if he takes a bite of a new food.

When Carlin was this age, he tried to do the same thing but not quite this picky. I started putting him in his crib if he woudn’t eat his food. A few times of that and he was a lot more cooperative. We would also tell him, you have to eat 5 bites of this or 3 bites of that if you want to get out of your seat. We still do that some times, especially with Jack and Miles.

    Good luck!

    I love this!
Be careful not to say “one moment on the lips, forever on the hips” around him or you might be finding little pieces of pork stuck in his diapers.
