A dream fulfilled . . . almost
I think it can be said that you are never too old to realise your dreams.
My mother is 61 years old. Not young I know, but certainly not old either by any means. An amazing, self taught cook and lover of all things food, it has been her ambition to one day open a restaurant and I am proud to say that she is on her way to finally realising this lifelong dream.
My mother has had the good fortune of having seen and accomplished a lot in her life. But, as far back as I can remember she has always talked about how one day she was going to open a restaurant, something she had yet to accomplish.
With this fervent ambition, she inhales all things foodie, often testing out new gourmet recipes on her family. I am ashamed to admit it, but when we were kids, my siblings and I would actually tire of this. We would have done anything for an evening meal of beans on toast or sausage and chips! It’s something we joke about today, but if we would ask if a friend could come and stay for dinner, my mum would immediately get to work in her kitchen, whipping up some culinary delights. And, rather than go to the chippie for take away, she would even make up our Friday night fish and chips.
I enjoy cooking, but much to my own family’s dismay, I do not share the same enthusiasm in the kitchen as my mum.
As a foodie, it’s obvious my mother loves cookbooks! She pours over them and must have every kind out there from Delia Smith to Jamie Oliver to Emeril Lagasse and all those in between. In fact, she has so many that she could open her own bookstore!
She knows it is going to be hard work, but her desire to create “good food” will prevail and I am sure her restaurant will be nothing but a success.
My mother is 61 years old and yesterday she fulfilled her dream . . . almost. She took the first step in realising her life’s ambition and signed the paperwork which makes that storefront in the cute, Tudor style shopping plaza in our town, hers and hers alone.
Never stop believing you can fulfill your dreams.

Congrats to your mother! She’s an inspiration! My husband’s dream is to open a restaurant, so maybe one day….What’s the name of the restaurant?
Good luck to your mum! I’m sure it’ll be a great success! When someone has dreamed of something, then gets it, they work harder to keep it alive than anyone else.
I will be her first customer as soon as she opens up a restaurant in Kentucky.;)
Wow!!! Has she picked a name or a theme out yet? How exciting.
That is so awesome! Good for her – what an inspiration!!
Congratulations to your mum, her talent for cooking and her relaxed, unstuffy manner, will be a total hit I’m sure!!!! I can testify to her yummy meals when I was a teenager, invited over yours for tea!!!! I lived in a typical English, meat and three veg house, so coming to yours and having pasta etc, was very exotic and having a beautiful, blonde, (Goldie Hawne lookalike) mum cook it was also very different to what I was used to. I wish her all the luck in the world and can’t wait to hear more about it.
What a wonderful post and what a wonderful mom. She sounds really full of life…I can see where your optimism comes from. I wish her all the best. When it’s ready, you should post an ad for her on your site.
