“‘Allo, ‘allo, ‘allo . . . what do we ‘ave ‘ere?”
So, ever since my middle son was given a school assignment in which he had to choose a hat from a particular time in history, do a poster board on it and recreate the hat, we were kind of at a loss as to which hat to to pick. We brainstormed some ideas and came up with what I thought were some fabulous ones, but the picky one just poo-pooed them all.
What’s wrong with doing your project on a Roman helmet, a traditional Scottish Glencarry cap, a chef’s hat or even the French beret, I wonder?
Anyway, Grandad came to the rescue when he suggested the traditional British bobby’s helmet! I had to giggle as I remembered this particular hat has all kinds of slang terms associated with it which I shall not divulge here! I made sure to help my son with the research, but truth be told there is really very little about it so we emailed an expert on them from one website we discovered and he was kind enough to send back a tonne of information! I now know everything there is to know about the custodian helmet!
Now, hubby has known he was in charge of helping our son with recreating said hat, but of course he waits until the night before it is due to even start it. Grrrrrr! I shan’t complain though as it did get finished and actually came out really cool. And, of course I had to don it and walk around doing my best Cockney accent saying, “”Allo, ‘allo, ‘allo . . . what do we have ‘ere?” Anyway, I doubt there will be another like it at his school’s great hat happening!

That;’s really good and I like the information boards, looks very professional….!!!!!
That’s awesome. What great parents you are. And thank God for the internet because without it that project would be hellish.
They had to pick a hat? That’s an interesting project. I love the bobby. Very good choice.
HA! I love the hat. Squidge has one like it and wears it all the time.
