I really love the music scene here in the UK.
The radio.
The charts.
The music shops.
The charts.
Yes.
I forgot how music is a big part of life here and just how seriously it can be taken.
Especially at this time of year.
Because it seems it has begun.
I’m talking about the bloody battle for the Christmas number one single.
Over the years there’s been some hits like Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” some misses like Mr.Blobby’s “Mr Blobby” and then some strange like last year’s Rage Against the Machine.
Personally, I’m hoping for something really festive and Christmassy to help get me in the mood because, dudes, it’s hard without my family and friends.
Anyhoo, here’s my first and favourite prediction for the 2010 Christmas single … it’s a gorgeous cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” by Ellie Goulding that makes me go all squishy when I hear it. It’s currently on a lovely Christmas advert that a friend told me I had to look up.
What say you? What do you think will be this year’s Christmas number one single?

The iPod has to be the best invention ever. I haven’t had to listen to chart music since 2005 – bliss!
I must confess, though, that I’m coming around to the little-girl-singer-songwriter trend, but I would prefer it if they’d skip the cover versions.
She is so sweet! Her remake is very cute. Her accent really comes out, and most of the time you really don’t hear that. Nice pick!
I listen to Radio 1 most of the day so ‘keep abreast’ of the UK music….and it is so good I do otherwise I would miss out so much over here.
I like ellie Goulding and I love this (downloaded it already). does your eldest seem interested in UK music now?
She is dating greg james I heard……
Nice voice…^^
She has a lovely voice. This version has such a softness and cozy feel, but I love every version of Your Song. Remember it from Moulin Rouge? The words are what make it such a wonderful song, no matter who sings it.
I adore this song and had no idea who sang it
That was great….what a great take on a great song..!
Oooh! I like her version of it! It made me go all squishy inside, too.
Nice choice!
MMMM: Thanksgiving
I absolutely LOVE it! Brill!
Love this remake of Elton’s song.
She has such a sweet voice and I love her singing this!
This is my first time hearing this one. I like it.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a joyful week
I miss English music – Radio 1 in particular – sometimes we still listen to the podcasts. The radio here just isn’t the same.
She ran the Great North Run, I thought I might see her, but didn’t bank on the 50000 odd other people there too, was a bit impossible. I believe she tries to run in races whilst on tour??? for the British Heart Foundation.
